New Plants Available
Apple River) The Eagle Nature Foundation has just received its first load of plants for for the year, 2015. There are presently more than 370 plants of about 140 different varieties from which people can choose. The plants are located at ENF’s office at 300 East Hickory Street, on the East edge of Apple River, right on Stagecoach Trail.
The plants are placed here so people can come in during daylight hours to look them over and take what they can pay for. If anyone comes during office hours they can come into the office to look over the field guides, bird houses and feeders, honey and Rawleigh products which are for sale. Some of the bird houses and feeders will be available for purchase on the porch, the money for which can be placed in the money box.
The prices are marked on the signs for each variety. The money for each plant chosen should be placed in the money box on the porch. On the porch beside the money box is a box with a complete list of the plant descriptions and the plant row in which they are located. The map of the yard which is attached to the plant descriptions should help anyone looking for a certain species or variety of plant. Income from these plants keep ENF alive during the summer.
These plants are available through the courtesy of Roy and Sarah Klehm, from Barrington, IL and come from their Beaver Creek Nursery in Popular Grove, IL, or Song Sparrow Nursery in Avalon, WI. Many of the plants are unique varieties which have been developed over the years by the Klehm Family.
There are many varieties of different species, such as Viburnums, Dogwoods, Peonies, Daylilies, Lilacs, Hydrangea, Hostas, Roses, Barberries, Spireas, Weigelas, Boxwoods, and Magnolias. Some of them are very unique varieties that cannot be found in regular nursery.
Stop in and see for yourself. You will be amazed.
