ENF Announces 2014 International Bald Eagle Days
Apple River, IL) The Eagle Nature Foundation (ENF) has announced its plans for holding the 2014 International Bald Eagle Days (IBED) at the Holiday Inn KCI Airport and KCI Expo Center in Kansas City, MO on Oct 10-12, 2014. Initially ENF had planned to hold IBED at this location in 2013 but could not find the necessary support for the event. But after reports of over 100 bald eagles being found dead along the Mississippi, and many others in Idaho and Utah during 2013 ENF feels there is a real need to get researchers together as soon as possible to discuss what is killing so many eagles. All of these eagle deaths are occurring before the wind farm threat which President Obama has approved comes to fruition.
IBED will begin on Friday evening with a panel discussion on the Future of the Missouri River which members of the public are invited to attend. Then throughout the day on Saturday bald eagle researchers from across the continent have been invited to present papers on the latest bald eagle population statistics in their own areas. These will include nesting studies, wintering studies and chemical contamination studies. After each series of papers there will be a panel of the previous speakers to answer questions from the public about their findings. Anyone having such information about bald eagles is invited to be part of these paper sessions. All sessions of IBED will be open to the public.
On Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday there will be booths and environmental stores where members of the public can get information, join organizations and buy souvenirs from the various vendors. The whole 2 day program will be open to the public for a modest fee.
At 6:00 pm on Saturday there will be a fund raising banquet complete with a noisy and a silent auction. At the moment ENF has not confirmed who the banquet speaker will be. AT 5:30 prior to the banquet there will be a reception.
At 8:00 am on Sunday morning a tour bus will leave for a visit to Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge. It should get back from Squaw Creek about noon.
For anyone living in Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, or Eastern Iowa and desiring to go to IBED, ENF has chartered a tour bus, which will leave Apple River at 8:00 am Friday morning, Oct. 10 and should return by 8:30 on Sunday evening, Oct. 12.
