Arrival of New Plants

Apple River) The Eagle Nature Foundation has just received its first 2014 shipment of plants at its office at 300 East Hickory Street in Apple River to help raise needed monies for its efforts to protect the bald eagle and endangered habitat. Anyone looking for some new shrubs, hostas, or day lilies, or other plants may come and look over the close to 500 plants of almost 150 varieties, which are presently available. With this shipment ENF has received a good number of new species and varieties of plants, which they had never received before. These are excellent plants to use as replacements for those plants which have been lost over the winter.

All of these plants are on a serve-yourself basis. They can be seen any day of the week from dawn to dusk. The value for each plant is placed on a sign by the plant, or on a description sheet which may be found on the porch. There is also a money box on the porch in which to place the dollars for whatever plants someone should choose. If anyone leaves a check, their names and addresses will be put on a list and will be notified whenever ENF should get new plant shipments.

The choices include 3 varieties of Aronia, 4 varieties of Barberry, 8 varieties of Dogwood, 12 varieties of Day Lilies, 10 varieties of Hostas, 7 varieties of Hydrangeas, 4 varieties of Holly, 13 varieties of Peonies, 8 varieties of Spirea, 2 varieties of Sumac, 4 varieties of Lilacs, 10 varieties of Viburnums, 4 varieties of Weigela as well as many, many other plants.

These plants have been donated by Roy and Sarah Klehm, Barrington, IL and come from their Beaver Creek and/or Song Sparrow Nurseries. The donation of plants like these each year help the Eagle Nature Foundation receive the funds needed to continue with its bald eagle research and efforts to save from destruction vital bald eagle habitat across the nation. People are urged, whenever possible, to add an extra donation to their money they leave in the money box.
